Infrastructure Sharing

The NVT Infrastructure Sharing initiative is in an internal GRDC mechanism that provides an expedited pathway for GRDC projects and GRDC investment managers to procure field trial services by leveraging the existing NVT infrastructure.

The NVT infrastructure includes the contracted NVT Service Providers, NVT trial sites, seed supply, trial auditing, database (data capture and storage), NVT team (milestone and contract management), and more.

The services available under the NVT Infrastructure Sharing mechanism include:

  • all standard NVT operations encompassing all NVT crop types (wheat, barley, durum, oat, canola, chickpea, faba bean, field pea, lentil, lupin and sorghum)
  • 350 trial locations (all states)
  • operational activities (sowing, harvest, trial maintenance)
  • data collection and collation.

Non-standard NVT services can also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The benefits of providing the NVT Infrastructure Sharing mechanism to other GRDC projects include:

  • Expedited procurement processes leading to improved responsiveness to grower needs and faster implementation of investments;
  • Additional capability and capacity in underserviced regions through consolidation of trial work;
  • More cost-effective small plot delivery due to improved economies of scale;
  • Secure data capture and storage via the NVT database;
  • Improving the return on investment of GRDC projects through sharing of existing infrastructure;
  • Improved efficiencies and reduced duplication in grains R&D investments.

More information on the NVT Infrastructure Sharing pathway can be found on the R&D Collaborative Partnership Request Pathways page.

Requests to utilise the NVT Infrastructure Sharing mechanism can be submitted by GRDC investment managers to the NVT team via nvt@grdc.com.au.
